Mitigation of nutrient input and eutrophication into open waters

How can harmful inputs to water bodies be reduced more effectively than before? - a new project of Landespflege Freiburg

Supported by the German Federal Environmental Foundation (DBU) the Landespflege Freiburg strives for the cooperation with an expert panel in order to improve measures to reduce nutrient discharge to rivers and lakes within agricultural landscapes. The basic idea is a spatially explicit identification of target areas disproportionately relevant to nutrient flows. Combining catchment based management approaches and landscape analyses, our venture aims on the development of decision tools for target-oriented advice and communication with farm managers. Preliminary results we expect until 2018.
