Flushing units and timber rafting in the Kinzig Water Catchment

With this project, we explore and document historic transport techniques for timber formerly applied in the Black Forest Region. Until the end of the 19th century, rafting was the most relevant transportation technique for timber. Rivers and streams were considerably modified in order to enable transport of large timber. In the mountainous woodlands of the Black Forest, the construction of chutes allowed for skittering big logs downhill into streams.
